Cadet is a 7 year old dog who was found running along a highway in dangerous 104 degree Texas heat. His skin was so inflamed from scratching that parts of his body and ears were bleeding. His nails were severely overgrown, his feet were blistered, and his worn down teeth suggest he may have spent much of his life confined to a kennel. No owner ever came forward to claim him. Thankfully, Cadet is finally getting the medical care, comfort, and love he desperately needed. He is already beginning to heal and now has the chance to discover what life can be like when someone truly cares.

Apollo is just over a year old and was found as a stray in heartbreaking condition. When he arrived, he was emaciated and clearly had not received the care a young dog desperately needs. Yet despite everything he had been through, Apollo remained the sweetest little guy. He is now safe in foster care, where he gets along well with his foster siblings and his caregivers are learning more about him every day. Apollo has already survived a difficult beginning. Now he deserves the chance to grow up knowing what it feels like to be safe, healthy, and loved.

Joy is a 6 year old dog who was spotted wandering from place to place in the Texas heat, first near a nursing home, then a Sonic, and finally a local gas station. With no animal control available and temperatures continuing to rise, BARK Rescue stepped in to help. When rescuers arrived, Joy greeted them with a wagging tail as though she knew she was finally safe. Sadly, she later tested positive for heartworm and is now undergoing treatment. True to her name, Joy remains incredibly happy and affectionate through it all. This sweet girl deserves to finish healing with a family of her own.

Katniss is a 3 year old dog who came to The Animal Protection League as a stray alongside her sister in June 2025. More than a year later, this sweet girl is still waiting for a home of her own. Currently living in foster care, Katniss has the softest fur and a personality her caregivers describe as “sweet as sugar.” She does well with older children and other dogs and has so much love ready to give. After spending so long waiting, Katniss deserves to finally know the security of a forever family who chooses her.

Winston is a 5 year old dog who came to The Animal Protection League after being surrendered by someone who said they had found him as a stray and could no longer keep him. He is now living in foster care, where this sweet little guy gets along wonderfully with his foster dog siblings. Winston has a severe underbite and, as a brachycephalic dog, can struggle to breathe when temperatures rise. What he needs now is a calm, comfortable home where he can stay safe and spend his days surrounded by people who love him.
