Dog Needlessly Dies In Hot Car When Owner Shops At Petsmart, Owner Becomes A Felon

| July 27, 2016

A needless death occurred in Falls Church, Virginia when a woman left her dog locked inside a car in the parking lot.

Nineteen-year-old Megan Campbell left her 5-year-old Puggle in the car while she went to run errands. But here’s the kicker–she was at a PetSmart. As we pup parents know, the pet supply chainwelcomes dogs into the store, a fact that makes this story even more baffling.

Firefighters received a call about the distressed dog, arriving just after noon on Friday to break it out of the car. The inside temperature of the vehicle was over 90 degrees, and rescuers attempted to cool the pup down, rushing it into PetSmart’s in-house clinic. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful and the dog passed away.

The thoughtless owner is now a felon, having been charged with felony animal cruelty, according to NBC Washington.

It was a tragic and avoidable death, but at the very least, this careless dog owner is receiving her due punishment.
