Taiwanese artist Liang Renchuan shared countless happy days with his dog, Hachiko. “Yesterday, I had a bad feeling. We snapped a quick photo together. Today, the first northeastern monsoon of the year blew you up into the sky,” he wrote. “Free from worry and pain, you must be so happy. Remember to come back and visit me when you have time.”

Searching for comfort through creativity, Renchuan returned to the material that had become such an important part of their shared adventures. Piece by piece, he assembled a life-sized sculpture of Hachiko using driftwood they had collected together over the years.
The tribute carried remarkable attention to detail. Renchuan carefully painted the sculpture to match Hachiko’s warm fur colors and gently placed the dog’s collar around its neck. Every element reflected the bond they had built through years of companionship, making the artwork feel less like an object and more like a lasting memory brought to life.
