Imagine a ruff day at the office. Maybe you missed a deadline or let someone down. What could cheer you up immediately? Your best friend, of course! Employees of Achieva Credit Union don’t need to imagine this scenario. They bring their dogs to work.

Dog days at the office

Employees at Dunedin, Florida’s, Achieva Credit Union headquarters have the best perk ever. They can bring their dogs to work. Tara Murphy, the company’s chief information officer, is one of those lucky humans.

She told Fox 13, “He loves going through here. If we walk through the building he knows how to navigate every single aisle and every single cubicle, you will definitely know who is friends are. He absolutely knows where every cookie is.”

There is a dog park on site. So, when the dogs take a break from working, they can play with their coworkers outside.

Murphy said, “It’s more about our culture and the environment that we create to have a good time while you’re at work.”

Stress reducers

Many employees bring their pups to work. However, not everyone has a dog.

“Even if you don’t have a dog to bring in you get to play with a dog here, or see them running around happily outside at the dog park,” Murphy said.

There is only one rule. Pups must be well-behaved. No stealing lunches from the breakroom!

Murphy said, “Employees love it. You’re going to see them smile. It definitely reduces stress and if you can make employees happy, they’re going to be happier at work, do a better job and feel better about everything they do.”

Dogs aren’t the only animals allowed in the office. They’ve had birds, bearded dragons and cats. The company CEO does beekeeping outside the office building and harvests the honey.

This sounds like the perfect workplace. And many employees agree.

Judie Norwood, vice president of consumer lending at Achieva said, “A game changer when you’re at work and having a tough day and a little puppy comes in, or a dog comes in, and it just changes the whole mood.”
