Samba entered San Diego Humane Society’s care in February 2016 after being rescued from a Korean dog meat farm.

When Samba first arrived at San Diego Humane Society, he avoided all contact with humans and did not allow handling. Slowly but surely, and with a lot of patience and compassion, behavior staff worked to gain Samba’s trust.

His training includes one-on-one interactions, as well as doggie playgroups with the other dogs from Korea. He still displays shy behaviors, but he is allowing touching and handling. He is currently available for adoption at the San Diego Campus while behavior staff continues his training.

Doggie playgroups are a significant component in the Korea dogs’ training. During these twice-daily play sessions, dogs have the opportunities to socialize with each other and trainers. In a recent session, behavior staff introduced the dogs to toys for the first time. Trainers noted that the dogs played well together with the toys – playing tug/chase games with each other – and they have also started to interact with handlers by chasing tossed toys and playing tug.

Update:

According to Samba’s adoption profile, he has been adopted! We’re so glad that compassionate humans gave him the chance to live a life full of safety, happiness, and love.

Thanks to support from Greater Good, dogs like Samba have a second chance at a better life.
