The happiest moment in a life of a shelter dog is when somebody finally adopts her and gives her a home. But the sad truth is that not all dogs get that kind of happy ending. Although they do get adopted, but there are those who are returned to the shelter–just like what happened to Lana.
Lana came from Mexico, and she was the runt of a very large litter. She was then brought to a shelter in Toronto, Canada–and it was there that she got introduced to different foster families. She was just waiting for someone to adopt her and give her a loving forever home.
Then a family came forward to adopt her. However, since Lana belonged to a large litter where she had to compete with her siblings for food, her guarding issues surfaced suddenly and she snapped at the mom of the family that adopted her. That was the only time that Lana had ever snapped at anyone. But the family decided to return her to the shelter because they got scared Lana might snap at the kids.
When Lana was returned to her boarding kennel, someone took a photo of her… showing just how sad and heartbroken she was.
For the whole day, Lana remained in her kennel, unresponsive–rejected and depressed. No one could move her–not even the shelter volunteer who takes her for walks. She was just too sad to go for a walk, or to even make eye contact with anyone.
But there’s still hope for Lana. The only person that lifted up her spirits the next day was Dahlia Ayoub of Mighty Mutts–a friend that Lana had known for a long time. Lana was so happy to see Dahlia that she showered Dahlia with kisses the minute she walked in.
Dahlia describes Lana as “silly sweet”. She never showed any guarding instincts or protective behavior ever before.
Will Lana ever find a forever, loving home who understands her?

Lana’s photo went viral that the shelter received a lot of support for her. Luckily Lana has found a foster home and she’s out of that kennel that she knows too well. We hope that someday, she will find a permanent home and a loving family who will care for her and love her forever.
