Dog Found Shot With Trap Stuck To His Leg Finally Gets His Happy Ending

| Published on January 8, 2017

A young Golden Retriever, appropriately named “Chance,” has recovered from trauma and gone home to his new forever family.

The young Goldie, around 2-3 years old, was found wandering the streets about two months ago. He was dragging a trap that was clamped around his front leg, and had an infected bullet wound in his hind leg. Luckily, the local dog warden took him to the Lorain County Animal Emergency Center for immediate treatment.

It is unclear how Chance got shot, or whether it was intentional or an accident. But he had to have his infected back leg amputated, as well as a couple toes on his front foot, which were damaged from the trap. Through it all, and despite being in excruciating pain, this pup remained sweet, loving, and calm.

Sadly, veterinarian Dr. Craig Talbott, who treated Chance, thinks that he actually came from a loving home.

“Whoever owned him took good care of him,” said Talbott. “He’s well mannered and he hasn’t shown any aggression. Despite the pain and discomfort he’s gone through, he’s very been very well mannered,” he said in a story by WOIO News

Unfortunately, the pup was not microchipped, and despite news coverage and a social media post that was shared over a thousand times, no owners came forward. So, the three-legged pup was put up for adoption.

Chance’s luck changed when a loving family came to take him to his new forever home, where he will be cherished and cared for. And even though he’s leaving, he’s certainly left an impression on the staff that treated him.

“Chance gets to go home with his new family. We will miss him dearly but we know he is going to his perfect home. Thank you everyone for everything you all have done to give Chance his second chance,” Lorain County Animal Emergency Center wrote on Facebook.

Good luck to Chance and his new forever family!
