Pia entered San Diego Humane Society’s care in May 2016 after being rescued from a Korean dog meat farm.

San Diego Humane Society staff immediately noted Pia’s curiosity about humans, but she remains shy and fearful around people and is working on her socialization.

Pia is available for adoption at the San Diego Campus while behavior staff continues her training. Trainers have noted that Pia warms up to people with patience and treats, and she does very well with other dogs around, especially if they are social with people.

San Diego Humane Society behavior and training staff are continually working to socialize the Korean dogs to prepare them for successful transitions into adoptive homes. This includes interactions and one-on-one training sessions with staff and volunteers, as well as doggie play groups.

Plan for adoption:

There is a specific behavioral plan in place for Pia and all of the remaining Korean dogs. This includes a required pre-adoption consultation with behavior staff to discuss the behavior treatment provided at San Diego Humane Society and what families can expect in the home. Depending on the needs of each dog, adopters will also receive post-adoption support from San Diego Humane Society trainers through training class registration or in-home consultations.

Update:

According to the humane society’s website, Pia has been adopted! We’re so glad that this sweetheart is happy, healthy, and loved.

Thanks to support from Greater Good, dogs like Pia have a second chance at a better life!
