Marline was loved by her friends and family, and known as an avid dog lover in the rescue world. She adopted 33 dogs, as well as horses, and had a particular soft spot for senior pooches who had a hard time finding homes. Once welcomed into Marline’s family, the pups were able to roam and play on her 10-acre property in Northern California.
Sadly, Marline, who was in her 70’s, passed away unexpectedly, leaving her huge four-legged family behind. Thankfully, the animals weren’t left for too long, as friends worked quickly to get them into safe care.
For the 25 senior dogs, who might have been deemed “unadoptable” and euthanized at city shelters, they contacted the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, California to ask for help. (All photos below are of Marline’s senior dogs.)
Payllazo, Border Collie Mix
The folks at Muttville knew Marline well because of her avid rescue work and welcomed the at-risk senior pups in with open arms — despite being put well over capacity. They knew that their loving mom would’ve wanted them to find wonderful forever homes, and that’s exactly what these staff and volunteers are setting out to do.
Kezar, Poodle Mix
This weekend – June 2nd and 3rd – the rescue is hosting an Adopt-A-Thon Adoption Pool Party in which all qualified candidates will have the opportunity to welcome a senior dog into their family for free! That’s right: adoption fees will be waived for screened adopters; all Muttville wants is for their dogs to be in safe and loving homes.
Some of these adoptable seniors are as young as 7, but no matter the age, all of them have so much love to give!

This story is a reminder to have a plan for your pets in the event that you’re suddenly unable to care for them. What’s more, it shows that shelter pets aren’t “damaged goods.” Some of them came from loving homes, and were taken to the shelter under dire circumstances.

Marline left a big impression in the rescue world, and we wish the best for her friends and family during this difficult time. We hope that these pups get the second chance that they deserve — it’s certainly what Marline would’ve wanted.
