In an age where nearly everyone has some kind of a camera on them at all times, we have more hilarious pet pics than we can possibly handle. That’s why the Comedy Pet Photography Awards came into existence. Well, actually, they evolved from a similar concept, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
Brought to us by Animal Friends Pet Insurance, the Comedy Pet Photography awards celebrate all kinds of domestic animals and their quirky antics. The 2022 finalists were just announced in late August, and they’re all worthy of the top prize if you ask me!
About The Comedy Pet Photography Awards
In this friendly competition (now in its third year), pet parents submit funny pictures of their animals for a shot at the title of Comedy Pet Photographer of the Year. The winners also receive a $2,500 prize.
People had to pay to enter their pet, but that’s because there’s a charitable aspect as well: the Comedy Pet Photography Awards will donate over $40,000 to three different U.K.-based animal welfare organizations this year. The Wild At Heart Foundation, Dean Farm Trust, and L.I.C.K. (London Inner City Kitties) are the 2022 beneficiaries. You can learn more about the work these charitable organizations do here.
The Comedy Pet Photography Awards website states its mission:
“Through the Comedy Pets, we want to promote positive awareness of animal welfare issues and celebrate the incredible and valuable contribution that pets can and do have on our lives.”
Expanding on that a little, Paul Joynson-Hicks, co-founder of the awards, said:
“We really love running this competition, the adoration that people have for their pets and vice versa is a wonderful thing to see and be part of. The images and videos entered are a genuine and touching reflection of the special bond that exists between humans and animals, and we can’t help but feel happier for seeing them.”
This Year’s Finalists
This year, entries were accepted until July 1st. From a big crop of submissions emerged these 26 finalists. A panel of judges will ultimately select the winner, but there was a People’s Choice award anyone could vote for prior to August 22nd.
The 2022 finalists range from goofy-faced alpacas to crazy kitties to enthusiastic dogs. Here are some of the cuties vying for the top prize:
A “werewolf” on a hammock:
Doggie driver (in training):
An overly enthusiastic sprinter:

An alpaca who looks like he’s standing outside the liquor store:
