There’s a reason why German Shepherds are among the most beloved dog breeds on the planet. Whether they’re serving as loyal family pets, sniffing out explosives, ensuring airport security, or even going to war, these dogs truly are the best.

Their greatness stems from their close connection with people, not just at home but also in roles that demand intelligence, focus, and responsibility. With a German Shepherd, you really can’t go wrong.

As Dogtime.com describes:

“They’re intelligent and capable working dogs. Their devotion and courage are unmatched. And they’re amazingly versatile, excelling at most anything they’re trained to do: guide and assistance work for the handicapped, police and military service, herding, search and rescue, drug detection, competitive obedience, and–last but not least–faithful companion.”

It’s that last part, “faithful companion,” that brings us to this heartwarming video of a dog reuniting with his mom.

Meet Johann, a pup who experiences a bit of separation anxiety whenever his mom steps out.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take long for him to start missing her. When she was away for 36 hours, it felt like an eternity to this sweet dog.

We don’t know where she went, but to Johann, it might as well have been a trip to the moon and back.

Judging by his reaction, he might have thought she was gone forever.

Poor guy! The moment Johann sees his mom return, he dashes out and starts whimpering with joy.

He can’t contain his excitement, and as it sinks in that she’s really back, he becomes even more ecstatic.

But just how excited can a dog get? Turns out, extremely excited!

His mom can’t even sit down without being smothered by this affectionate canine.

When dogs get overly excited, they sometimes don’t know what to do with themselves, and Johann is no exception.

He’s bursting with affection nonstop!

And he just can’t stop grinning!

Once the happy whimpers fade, he sits right on his mom and grins from ear to ear.

If that’s not the face of pure joy, I don’t know what is!

But that doesn’t mean he’s done showing his love! Here come the loving licks! Our buddy isn’t finished saying hello just yet.

Between moments of sitting and grinning, he jumps back into giving his mom all his attention.

“Aw, this is true love,” she says during one of these affectionate bursts.

That’s one way to put it, Mom! But who could be mad at a face like that?

With a big, goofy grin and a happy pant, Johann seems to be in a place he’d never want to leave.

Or rather, he doesn’t want his mom to go anywhere ever again.

Because for this dog, being with his mom is heaven. Let’s hope she doesn’t have plans to leave again anytime soon.

Doctor Left Her Dog In a Storage Bin
Doctor Left Her Dog In a Storage Bin

A children's doctor had been evicted and had left items behind when she left. Among them was something alarming: a plastic storage bin, where a dog had been locked inside. If someone is this cruel to a small, defenseless dog, how can they continue to treat children as a doctor?

Many dog reunion videos feature soldiers returning home for a furry welcome.

And rightly so, as they’ve been away for months or even years.

But spend just a day away from your dog and see how he reacts when you come back.

Imagine what months apart would do.
