Erika follows one of the dogs into the empty house to investigate. What she finds is heartbreaking. A very thin, pit bull is lying among the trash, clearly injured and starving. She was most likely used for breeding and dog fighting, some that is prevalent in the neighborhood.

Worse, Erika knows the pit bull – her name is mOma, a stray that Erika has encountered in the past.

She drinks the water Erika offers gratefully and seems to recognize her voice. But she is going into shock and needs medical attention immediately – she has open wounds with free flowing fluids.

At the vet, they find out that mOma was becoming septic and may lose her rear leg. Her vet bills for just one night were $2700. “It’s a sad thing that not a lot of people that this side of dog ownership happens,” says Sandro on mOma’s recovery video. “that dogs are abanded and left to fend for themselves, this is the aftermath.” When they found her, mOma was hours from death. The vet gave her a 60 percent chance of survival. This is what she looks like now!
