Lots of dog parents waited outside in the cold for H.O.P.E. for Animals in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to open. It might seem crazy, but they actually did it for a great reason. This line was to help with the health and safety of dogs. Dogs are a huge part of our families, and for some people, it can be hard to find money for all the necessary costs. So, H.O.P.E. partnered with Avangrid Renewables to give free vaccines to dogs in need.
H.O.P.E. and Avangrid Renewables decided to host their second annual free vaccine clinic. They wanted to help dog parents in any way possible, and they thought providing vaccines would be a great way to do it, especially with the busy holiday season coming up.
“I love doing these because I love seeing all of the people willing to wait in the cold, willing to wait in those lines to be able to make sure their [dogs] are taken care of,” said Tyna Reiter, the Community Outreach Coordinator of H.O.P.E. for Animals.
Free Vaccines for Dogs
250 vaccines had been donated for the event. By waiting in line at this non-profit, dog parents were able to receive free vaccines for their dogs. This event worked on a first come, first serve basis, which is why so many dog parents decided to get in line early. The actual clinic took place from 9am to 1pm.
All the dogs received the rabies vaccine and the distemper combo vaccine. Rabies is required by law, and distemper is highly encouraged. Each family was able to get up to 4 animals in their household vaccinated during this event.
“Everybody here is grateful for it,” said Carolyn Swinford, a dog parent at the event. “I could almost come to tears of how grateful I am for this, because my dogs mean everything to me.”
Overall, the event was a huge success. All 250 vaccines were given out, meaning that lots of dogs left being happy and healthy. Plus, the smiles on everyone’s faces warmed the hearts of the staff members.
All dog parents want their furry friends to be as healthy as possible, but sometimes visiting the vet can be expensive. Keeping your dog healthy and giving them the vaccines they need shouldn’t have to be stressful, and it definitely shouldn’t be forgotten about.
H.O.P.E. was very kind to offer these free vaccines, and every dog parent that attended should be grateful. Never take the health of your dog for granted. Instead, continuously do whatever you can to keep them happy and healthy throughout their life.
