Many dogs carry around unthinkable emotions after being abused. Their trauma can often manifest into certain behaviors that break our hearts. Fortunately, there’s way more good in this world than misery. Animal rescuers, rehabilitators, and adopters happily step up to improve these precious souls. When a young dog was brought to the shelter after years of abuse, he wouldn’t allow anyone to come near him. The staff was understandably concerned. If he didn’t learn to accept humans, he would never find a home. This could lead to euthanasia or life ‘behind bars.’

One woman who volunteered at the shelter heard about the dog’s story and stepped up to help. She worked her way into his shelter kennel slowly, but the dog still didn’t trust her. The dog continued to stand against the wall whenever the woman came near. It got to the point that she felt she had no other choice but to teach him about kindness her own way.

The shelter caregiver felt that her love would prove, once and for all, that not all humans are inherently cruel. She stood close to him and put out her hand. Realizing he would not bite her, she stroked him. He cried so loudly that it sounded like he was being tortured, but the woman knew that this was solely out of fear. Human hands had never been gentle before.

As she petted him, the dog came closer, and the woman was able to hold his face in her hands. She continued to comfort him, and soon, his loud, hysterical cries faded to a quiet yelp. Within a few minutes, as she spoke to him, the dog calmed down completely. To say this story is miraculous is a vast understatement!

Shortly after being released, he became overcome by rage and frustration and began violently wailing on his poor, trembling, frightened dog. It's clear that this man's violent tendencies didn't decrease after serving his time.

The pup, now named Kanye, completely transformed into a sweet dog and was able to transition into a forever home. We are eternally grateful for this amazing human being who refused to give up on Kanye. To see his story for yourself, click on the video below.
