Life in a shelter can be frustrating. Dogs spend every waking moment in a confined space with little interaction. They eat, they sleep, they bark, and then the whole routine starts again. Shelter staff does their best to make things easier for these poor pups, but there are simply not enough resources. Most shelters operate on the bare minimum. Dogs are lucky if they have a cozy bed to sleep on and some time outside with human friends. That is why this story had to be shared!
A dog named Kylie has been living in a shelter for four years, but despite the stress and mundane existence, she continues to have an upbeat disposition. She smiles at every person who walks by her kennel and wags her tail, eager to play.
A shelter volunteer, Julie, decided Kylie deserves some happiness in her life. She stopped by the pet store on her way to the shelter one day and bought Kylie a new toy. The dog’s reaction was off the charts! Her gratitude was immeasurable. After seeing her reaction to the first toy, this became routine.
The moment Kylie receives a new toy and is allowed in the yard to play with it, the world only consists of the two of them. Julie’s heart melts each and every time. Then, Julie received the best news: Kylie was adopted! Julie saw a photo of Kylie in her new home, surrounded by blankets and toys, and she bawled her eyes out. But the happy news was short-lived.
Kylie injured her leg, requiring surgery, and her new family couldn’t afford to pay for it. Kylie was brought back to the shelter. This broke everyone’s hearts, but Julie vowed to never give up. She continues to share Kylie’s story on all of her social media accounts, hoping to find another home for the deserving pup. She says in the video below, “I just need to find that one person.”
Kylie’s surgery went well, and she’s recovering smoothly. But her injury will require some accommodations. She needs to live on the first floor since the stairs are challenging. Ideally, she needs to be the only dog in the home. But she gets along with every human she meets and loves kids!
Please share her story. We have no doubt that with your help, Kylie will find her forever family. Kylie is located in Washington at the Benton Franklin Humane Society shelter. We are unsure if they are taking out-of-state applications, but please reach out if you’re interested. If you’d like to fill out an adoption application directly, click here.
