The CBS News 24/7 newsroom was filled with emotion as team members gathered to say goodbye to Scoop, an adorable service dog in training who had become a cherished part of their everyday lives. Since arriving as a tiny puppy just weeks old, Scoop brought comfort, happiness, and laughter to the busy newsroom. Her playful spirit and calm presence quickly won over both staff and viewers alike. Whether she was appearing during weather segments or quietly sitting beside employees during stressful moments, Scoop made a lasting impact on everyone she met before beginning the next chapter of her inspiring journey.

From the moment Scoop first padded through the newsroom as a few-week-old puppy, she brought warmth and joy everywhere she went. Staff members quickly fell in love with her playful energy, gentle personality, and calming presence. Whether she was wandering between desks for belly rubs or sitting patiently during broadcasts, Scoop became much more than a dog in training. She became part of the family.
Viewers also grew attached to the cheerful pup. Scoop frequently appeared during weather segments, charming audiences with her sweet expressions and curious personality. One especially memorable moment came when she met Chase from Paw Patrol and was named an honorary member of the team. The adorable interaction made it clear just how naturally Scoop connected with people.
But behind the cute moments was a much deeper mission.
Scoop’s journey included participation in an inmate-led training program connected to Canine Companions. Through the program, incarcerated individuals helped care for and train future service dogs, building powerful emotional connections along the way. For many participants, working with dogs like Scoop offered a rare sense of purpose and healing.

Handlers involved in the program shared how the experience encouraged accountability, compassion, and personal growth. Scoop’s gentle nature helped bring comfort and humanity into an environment that can often feel isolating and difficult. Her presence reminded people of trust, patience, and second chances.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
As emotional farewells filled the newsroom, the CBS team reflected on just how much Scoop had impacted their daily lives. Colleagues described her as a beloved employee who brightened stressful days and brought people together with a single wag of her tail.
Now, Scoop is heading off to what the team lovingly calls “college” to begin advanced professional training with Canine Companions. There, she will continue learning the important skills needed to one day assist someone living with a disability or in need of support.

While saying goodbye was difficult, the newsroom knows Scoop’s story is only beginning. The playful puppy who once roamed the halls of CBS is preparing for a future filled with purpose, compassion, and service.
And although she will be deeply missed, everyone who knew her is incredibly proud of the difference she is destined to make.
