On Memorial Day, Veteran And Service Dog Turned Away From Restaurant; Manager Fired

| Published on May 31, 2015

Last May 25, we celebrated Memorial day–a day dedicated for the veterans, a day when we remember those brave men who have gone to war to help keep the country free.

However, right before veteran’s day a veteran had a bad experience at an Algonquin restaurant. Like some veterans, Garrett Loughran has a service dog to help him cope with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). His service dog is a 5-year-old Labradoodle named Hershey. Hershey is specially trained to help Garrett calm down and adjust to civilian life.

When Garrett and his mom, together with Hershey, were about to have a pre-memorial day lunch, they were turned away. Watch the video below for the full story.

Because of this, the manager was fired. The restaurant is also donating donating $2,000 dollars to the Pets for Vets organization, which is the cost for training one service dog for a veteran.
