Animal rescue isn’t just about placing dogs with new families. Sometimes, rescue work involves helping a dog’s existing family so that the family can stay together and their furry friend can live a better life. King’s story is one of these, and because you shop with purpose you played a huge role in improving his life. When you shop with iHeartDogs, every single purchase funds donations for dogs in need. Whether you purchase a cute dog shirt for yourself or supplements for your dog, that cart full of goodies gives compassion.
Through our partnership with Greater Good Charities and their GOODS Program, we ensure shelter dogs receive food and other necessities while waiting for their forever home. The GOODS Program distributes pet food to shelters and rescues across the country and has been keeping hungry bellies full for over a decade.
A Good Life Together Thanks To Teamwork
To date, the GOODS Program has delivered over 578 million meals to shelters and rescues nationwide. That’s more than 6,000 truckloads of necessities provided to animals in need! But it’s about more than filling bowls. Donations like these also mean families can stay together when budgets get tight. And that’s the aim of Pets in Peril. This volunteer-based organization in Flint, Michigan, works to educate families on how to better care for their pets while also providing necessities. King is one of the many dogs who’s benefitted, and he’s also got the heart of volunteer Shelia Hardy.
“When I met King a couple of years ago, he lived in a dilapidated wooden dog house,” shared Sheila of Pets in Peril. “He was also underweight, because the owner was struggling financially. King never received any vet care, either. So the first thing we did was to give the owner a bag of food.”
“We also got King a nice igloo dog house. Since it was November, we even put a coat on him.”
From that first meeting, Pets in Peril continued to visit King, bringing him tasty food every time and also arming his owner with information on how to better care for him. These visits and donations have made such a difference in King’s life. He gets regular meals and enjoys his igloo and the straw inside it. This good boy is also proud to wear his coat all winter long!
“He even has a crate inside the house for when the weather is really cold. And he receives vet care on a regular basis. The owner never hesitates calling us when an issue rises that he doesn’t know how to deal with regarding King.”
It’s undoubtedly a better existence for King with Pets in Peril helping, and he’s not the only one benefitting from their hard work and the donations you fund.
“We have over 200 clients,” Sheila explained. “The only way we can provide the food our clients need is through your program. Without the GOODS Program, we would have to close down.”
But their doors remain open because of generosity. So, go ahead and treat yourself! Get the cute dog hoodie you’ve got your eye on, and treat your dog to something new while you’re at it. After all, every purchase makes a difference to a dog in need.
