Imagining a dog on its own, needing to fend for itself, is heartbreaking. Thankfully, there are kind people who make it their mission to save as many lives as possible. One dog was living in a remote area in a heap of trash with nothing substantial to eat besides plastic bottles and discarded waste. Milan, a seasoned rescuer from Dog Rescue Shelter, Serbia, was called in and arrived quickly to help her. He fed her and then placed a leash around her neck. He had heard the dog had puppies and set out to find them.

Milan found two puppies huddled together. Before placing one inside a cardboard box, he gave the pup the sweetest kiss. This man obviously had a heart of gold! The mama dog watched, wagging her tail. She was so relieved that someone had finally shown up to help the family.

Soon, all the puppies were secure in the box, and the rescuer took the mama dog and her babies to his car. As they ran down the street, the mama dog limped. She was hurt! Milan placed the dogs inside a crate in the back of his van. Once at the rescue center, the mama dog was placed in a kennel and given some more food. She was thin and needed to build up her strength.

A few days later, the mama dog was strong enough to nurse her babies again. They spent most of their days snuggled up together, relishing in their love. The mama dog’s leg healed, proving this rescue was beyond successful. Isn’t that amazing?

Rescuers swooped in, but when they got the pup into their care, she had lost the use of her back legs, was struggling to breathe, and weighed just around 20 pounds.

The dog family is doing great and will soon be ready for their forever homes. We are so grateful to Milan and Dog Rescue Shelter, Serbia, for giving these precious animals a new lease on life!
