A once frightening story has a beautiful happy ending! Just 2 weeks ago it looked as if a tiny Chihuahua puppy was not going to survive. Now, the little fella is healthy, full of energy, and ADOPTED!
It began when police discovered his near lifeless body in his owners’ truck outside a Texas Home Depot. He had consumed their stash of heroin and required immediate emergency care.
“He was extraordinarily lethargic, almost comatose,” Dr. Stacie Fowler of North Texas Emergency Pet Clinic said. “He was really on the verge of not breathing.”
ONE TOUGH PUP!
Our many thanks today to Dr. Stacie Fowler and the staff at North Texas Emergency Pet Clinic for nursing…
If not for the discovery by Carrollton Police, the little pup would have stopped breathing and passed away. His (former) owners were discovered inside the store changing price tags and arrested on charges of fraud and possession of a controlled substance. No charges relating to the puppy have been filed as of yet, but police say they have not ruled it out.
The cinnamon-colored pooch with the black muzzle made a full recovery thanks to the loving care he received from veterinary staff. After several days in the hospital he was off to the Carrollton Animal Services shelter to be put up for adoption. His new friends fittingly named the rambunctious little survivor, Lucky.
Remember Lucky, the pup who fortunately recovered from an overdose of heroin? He’s now ready to find his fur-ever…
Due to the publicity generated by Lucky’s harrowing story, hundreds of people contacted the shelter about adopting him. This past Wednesday, March 8 the shelter conducted a lottery to fairly determine who would have the honor of taking Lucky home for good.
A gentleman in the crowd was holding one of the final tickets when he noticed a little girl named Lacy standing with her grandpa, John Lepsch. Seeing how much she wanted Lucky – whom Lacy called her “dream puppy” – the man gave her his ticket.
What a “Lucky” day! Lucky, the pup who unfortunately overdosed on heroin, was adopted earlier this morning to his new fur-ever home! pic.twitter.com/zlOQNLDou9

Everyone agreed that Lacy and Lucky were a perfect match! The energetic puppy showered his new sister with kisses for the news cameras before heading home to start his brand new, happy life!
