If you have a Saint Bernard you know just how slobbery these gentle giants can be, but imagine raising Mochi, whose above-average tongue was just added to the Guinness Book of World Records!

Mochi is a rescue whose tongue measures at 7.31 inches long. If that doesn’t sound impressive, think of it another way: from snout to tip, it’s about as long as a medium banana; it’s almost twice as long as the average human tongue; and it’s even longer than KISS’ Gene Simmons’ tongue, which measures at about 7 inches!

Owner Carla Rickert is pleased with Mochi’s induction. She tells The Telegraph, “When we open that Guinness World Records book and see Mochi’s picture in there we’re going to feel very proud and it’s going to make all of the water and slobber we’ve cleaned up over the last 6 ½ years well worth it.”

Mochi’s tongue at work is quite a sight! I wouldn’t be surprised if she could lick the back of her head!

Carla mentions that having a tongue the size of Mochi’s does cause some issues, and can make it difficult for her to breathe and pick things up from the floor. But on the plus side, it does come in handy for slurping up sweet potato and peanut butter!

Congratulations, Mochi!
