Some dogs are perfectly content staying out of the spotlight, but Carl seems to have been born for it. The four legged sidekick of country singer Riley Green has already won over thousands of fans online, charmed visitors during public appearances, and become a familiar face to those who follow Green’s life away from the stage. Now, after making his network television debut on The Voice, the lovable Alabama farm dog has added another memorable moment to his growing list of accomplishments.

Carl was already something of a celebrity before appearing on television. His Instagram account has attracted nearly 150,000 followers, while fans even lined up for a special meet and greet with him at CMA Fest.

His popularity was also impossible to miss when the Country Living team visited Green’s farm for a cover story photo shoot. While cameras were focused on his famous human, Carl seemed completely comfortable wandering around the property and enjoying the attention.

For all the excitement surrounding him, however, Carl appears happiest simply being a dog. He shares his life with his girlfriend, Carol Ann, and earlier this year, the pair welcomed two puppies named Coosa and Cotton. The little family has given Carl another sweet chapter in a life that already includes plenty of adventures.

A Country Dog at Heart

Life with a touring country star means Carl has experienced things most dogs never will. He is comfortable traveling aboard tour buses and even private jets, taking the unusual lifestyle in stride as he accompanies Green on the road.

Still, Green says Carl is most at ease back home in Alabama. There, away from packed venues and television cameras, he can roam the familiar farm and settle into the slower rhythm of country life.

Carl’s unusual appearance has also become part of his charm. With his short legs, striking merle coat, and alert, perky ears, he often leaves fans wondering exactly what kind of dog he is. According to Green, Carl is a Cowboy Corgi, a hybrid created by crossing a Pembroke Welsh Corgi with an Australian Cattle Dog, which is also commonly called a Blue Heeler.

Cowboy Corgis began appearing in the United States during the 1990s. Because they are hybrids rather than a recognized standardized breed, their appearance and temperament can vary from dog to dog.

They often combine the compact stature associated with Corgis with characteristics inherited from Australian Cattle Dogs. Their coats may appear in merle, sable, roan, or tricolor patterns, giving many of these dogs a distinctive appearance.

The mix is also typically associated with energetic, intelligent dogs. Both parent breeds have strong working backgrounds, so Cowboy Corgis may inherit considerable stamina along with natural herding and guarding instincts. Carl, however, showed that breed descriptions only tell part of the story.

During the farm photo shoot, he seemed far less concerned with putting his working instincts to use than with finding someone willing to give him belly rubs. It is that combination of distinctive looks, personality, and easygoing country charm that has helped make him so popular with Green’s fans.

His appearance on The Voice may introduce Carl to an even larger audience, but fame does not appear to have changed what matters most to him. Whether he is riding on a tour bus, stepping onto a private jet, appearing before television cameras, or relaxing at home in Alabama, Carl remains Green’s beloved companion.

The television appearance might make him an even bigger canine celebrity, but back on the farm, Carl still seems happiest with familiar surroundings, his family nearby, and plenty of belly rubs.
