No one likes the idea of going on a diet, but dogs are especially reluctant. Most dogs will eat as much food as you’ll give them, so the idea of cutting back on their favorite snacks is a nightmare.
Sirius, the Great Dane, can confirm that even the idea of going on a diet is the worst news for a dog. In a viral video, his humans pull a prank on him by suggesting that he lose some weight, which means eating less of his favorite thing in the world: chicken. As you can imagine, Sirius doesn’t take the news well.
“No More Chicken”
In the video, the Great Dane’s humans decide to convince the dog that he’s going on a diet. At 3:30, they tell him that they’ve decided to only give him one meal in the morning as opposed to giving him breakfast and dinner. Even though dogs can’t have conversations with us, Sirius looks like he understands right away.
When he hears this upsetting news, he doesn’t know that it’s a joke. He groans and howls to show his disappointment. Yet, his humans continue the joke. They emphasize the fact that there will be no chicken for dinner.
Sirius keeps barking and growling, so his humans decide to be a little forgiving. They tell him that he can still eat some vegetables for dinner but no chicken. That isn’t a good enough compromise for Sirius. He demands chicken!

“We’ll give you green beans and pumpkin. Is that okay?” His dad says. “No chicken. Just green beans and pumpkin. Alright?”
Using Cuteness to Get Out of a Diet
Sirius refuses to accept less chicken. After all, he’s a big, strong Great Dane. Great Danes need lots of delicious protein! So, he keeps howling, whining, and making any silly sound he can think of to get them to change their mind. But they won’t stop talking about vegetables instead of chicken. How dare they!
At one point in the video, Sirius even gets up and looks out the front door as if he’s plotting his escape. Maybe the neighbors will take him in and give him the chicken he deserves. But then, he returns to his humans to give them one more chance.
Finally, his humans decide that it’s time to give up the charade. Sirius’ dad asks him if he wants to start the diet tomorrow instead. That means one more night of chicken for dinner! Sirius can’t contain his excitement, and he seems proud that he was able to use his cuteness to get out of his new diet for now.
Of course, this isn’t his last dinner. His humans were just messing with him. He will keep getting chicken for both meals, without a doubt! And if they ever decide to put him on a diet, Sirius now has some experience talking (or barking) his way out of it.
