Nine U.S. rescue groups have banded together in an attempt to rescue 99 dogs from the Chinese dog meat trade before the upcoming Yulin Festival.
The COVID-19 outbreak has virtually halted international rescue since volunteers typically accompany the dogs on flights. In order to save this group of dogs, they will have to charter a private plane.
An anonymous aviation company has offered to fly the dogs from China to Chicago for free, but fuel and other expenses will cost the rescues a total of $268,000.
The rescue group, Retrieve A Golden of the Midwest (RAGOM), lists a total of $189,000 raised so far. However, it is an all or nothing situation, so if the entire amount is not raised by the early July deadline, the flight is off.
