HEALTH ALERT #1

Digitize Your Dog For Online Vet Visits

Thanks to a group of British shelter dogs and computer scientists at the University of Bath, pup parents can now create digital avatars for their pets in order to better monitor their health.

In the early days of motion capture science special suits were required. This was fine for humans, but getting dogs to put them on – and move normally while wearing them – was a challenge.

With the new system, owners can create their dog’s digital avatar without a suit just by filming them with a single camera.

Find out how this new technology can make it easier to keep your dog healthy.

HEALTH ALERT #2

Why Some Dogs Are More Susceptible To Heat Stroke

An extensive study of 905,000 dogs in veterinary care during 2016 found that certain pups are at higher risk for potentially-deadly heat stroke including seniors, overweight pups, and flat-faced breeds like Pugs and French Bulldogs.

While any dog can suffer from heat stroke if precautions are not taken, knowing which are most vulnerable can help dog parents make better choices. In addition to leaving them safely at home on hot days, the study may provide extra incentive to keep dogs at a healthy weight.

“Luckiest Dog” Rescued After Being Trapped In Tight Spot Overnight

Your Dog’s Sleeping Habits Can Reveal Secrets About Their Health & Personality

Dogs sleep an average of 12-14 hours a day according to The National Sleep Foundation. Although she may be off in dreamland, you can still learn a lot about your dog by the way she dozes!

For example, how secure is your dog in your home? Whether she sleeps on her belly, curled in a ball, on her side, or sprawled on her back can give you an idea.

From snoozing positions, to paw twitches, to sudden changes in sleep patterns, here’s what your pup’s sleeping habits say about her.

How YOU Can Help Save 99 Dogs From China’s Dog Meat Trade

Nine U.S. rescue groups have banded together in an attempt to rescue 99 dogs from the Chinese dog meat trade before the upcoming Yulin Festival.

The COVID-19 outbreak has virtually halted international rescue since volunteers typically accompany the dogs on flights. In order to save this group of dogs, they will have to charter a private plane.

An anonymous aviation company has offered to fly the dogs from China to Chicago for free, but fuel and other expenses will cost the rescues a total of $268,000.

The rescue group, Retrieve A Golden of the Midwest (RAGOM), lists a total of $189,000 raised so far. However, it is an all or nothing situation, so if the entire amount is not raised by the early July deadline, the flight is off.
