Forget flowers and chocolates! If you’re looking to give a meaningful gift this Valentine’s day that can actually save the life of a shelter pet, look no further.

At many shelters across the nation, demand for pets is low while the supply of new dogs and cats coming into shelters is increasing. In situations like this, shelters often euthanize perfectly healthy pets, simply because there are not enough new adopters coming forward in the immediate geographic area.

How can this problem be solved? Enter the Second Chance Movement created by iHeartDogs with their partners at Greater Good Charities.

This Valentine’s Day, their goal is to fund a flight of 50 dogs and 40 cats – moving pets who are at-risk for euthanasia in shelters in Louisiana to safety in New Jersey, where demand for adopted pets is higher.

However, funding this flight is no easy effort – the average rescue flight costs up to $30,000. With about 24 hours left (as of this writing) the flight is about half way funded.

How Can I Help?

There’s 2 ways to help:

  1. Make a tax-deductible donation here.
  2. Any products purchased from the Second Chance Movement collection will help fund the flight. Each product funds a specific number of miles!

Below are some pictures of some of the adorable pups who will be flying. Just look at the faces of the lives you can help save!
