Last week, June 21st marked the twenty-first annual Take Your Dog to Work Day. Many companies held events for their employees and their pups. One tech giant took it to a paw-some extreme. Amazon employees took advantage of this pawfectly special day. Employees at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters registered more than 7,000 dogs to attend the event. 7 – 0 – 0 – 0!!
A Longstanding Tradition
Employees started bringing their pups to work at Amazon way back in 1998.
Lara Hirschfield, Amazon’s “Woof Pack” Manager explained the company’s dedication to four-legged friends, “Amazon has been dog-friendly since Day 1. Our dogs add to the fun, dynamic energy of our workplace.”
As legend has it, a husband and wife brought their Welsh Corgi, Rufus, to work with them. He became an integral part of the team. Employees used Rufus’ paw to click the computer mouse to launch early pages of Amazon.com. Pretty cool!
Best. Benefit. Ever. These Employees Bring Their Pups to Work
Amazon allows employees to bring their dogs to work every day. They estimate a daily average of 800 dogs on campus. But, they see the largest amount of canines around the office during the annual event.
Lara Hirschfield explained the company policy this way, “Having dogs in our workplace is an amazing treat. They make employees smile, and we’re proud this is such a uniquely Amazonian tradition – it’s truly ingrained in our company and culture.”
Amazon accommodates dogs by having puppy parks, water fountains fit for canines, and dog parking spaces. These spots have inactive parking meters for tethering leashes.
Other Dogs at Work
We love this holiday so much, we fell down a rabbit hole of pictures of dogs in the office. Here are some of our favorites.
