After his owner was convicted of dog fighting, Murdock, a seven-year-old staffie mix, spent the next eight months in isolation at Hempstead Town Animal Shelter in Hempstead, New York. It’s believed he may have been a bait dog.

He had to wait until the trial was over and his owner was found guilty before he could start a new life.

Now, he needs a home.

Yes, he has a few physical scars from his past life – blind in one eye and partially deaf. But through it all Murdock has retained a friendly disposition towards people.

One volunteers explains:

This is my new ‘buddy,’ Murdock. Murdock bears the scars of years of abuse as anyone can see in this photo. At this point, many municipal shelters would have destroyed him. Yes, destroyed, I won’t sugar coat it with words like “put to sleep” or euthanasia. But the folks at TOHAS are going to fight FOR Murdock. One last fight, a good fight, a fight to find a new home and a new life for this pup with victory as the only acceptable outcome.

He does need to be the only pet, though he is fine on leash near other dogs.

The volunteer adds this plea:

Our team of staff and volunteers is working hard to make good things happen for Murdock, but we could always use some help. I know many of you reading this are already working hard to find homes for abandoned, unwanted or mistreated animals. But please find it in your hearts to spread the word about Murdock. Help us find Murdock a home where he can live out his life in peace. If it takes 100,000 shares or more to find him a home, we won’t give up. Please share his story widely- and let’s find Murdock….his angel.

The team at TOHAS is working hard to find him a home….will you find it in your heart to take him in?  Or at least SHARE this story so his home can be found.

If you are interested in adopting Murdock, please email wendcar@tohmail.org or animalinfo@tohmail.org
