Walks Are A Costumed Event For Woman And Her Dog

| Published on April 15, 2020

A dog named Hendrix has a very particular struggle during the COVID-19 outbreak. Unlike most of us, he’s been getting pretty dressed up every day, but it’s not exactly his idea. It’s his mom, UK dancer Clare Meardon’s. Yes, Hendrix and his mom are practicing social distance and are not attending any parties. But everyone still needs to walk their dogs, and Meardon and Hendrix have been doing it in style.

Every day, these two go on their daily walks dressed head to toe in elaborate matching costumes. Hendrix “used his mom’s Facebook” to issue a cry for help, accompanied by a photo of one of their glamorous costumed strolls.

“My name is HENDRIX. Please help me. My human mum keeps doing weird stuff like this. Apparently it’s funny. She’s currently making an outfit for me. Please send help!!”

So… Why The Costumes?

Meardon runs a dance school and makes costumes herself. She had brought a bunch home to work on before a show scheduled in July. After she tried on an Eve costume and sent a photo to friends, a fantastic opportunity came about.

“I realised it would be a really funny photo opportunity, and when I took the snap and sent it to my friends one of them said ‘I bet you won’t go for a walk like that’. When she said that, how could I not?”

Thank goodness this woman rose to that challenge. So far she’s dressed herself and Hendrix up as superheroes, spa-goers, and even Tiger King stars. Her husband is tasked with filming these walks.

Meardon started posting the videos of her themed walks with Hendrix online. The response was, naturally, huge.

“After I posted the first clip online, people said watching it was the highlight of their day and I realised just how much of a bad time a lot of people must be having at the moment and how everyone needed something to laugh about. So the next day I dressed as a ballerina and walked along the pavement in my pointed shoes.”

In addition to making them laugh during quarantine, Meardon has also been keeping people in shape. She currently offers free virtual dance classes through @savvystudioshayle on Instagram.

“The main thing for me is about making people laugh. Laughter is the most important medicine for everyone, now more than ever.”
