UPDATE 1/14/15: COOKIE IS UP FOR ADOPTION!!
According to the Houston Humane Society, Cookie is now available for adoption:
GREAT NEWS!!!
We are excited to announce Cookie, the puppy dragged, jerked, and thrown by her previous owner (and caught on video), has started the next chapter of her journey. Houston Humane Society transferred her to one of our rescue partners Adore Houston yesterday. While she was at the shelter, we spayed her, kept her up to date on puppy vaccines, and had a blast playing with her. It was sad to say goodbye after she won all of our hearts, but we know Adore will find her the perfect, fantastic home. In the meantime, she’s with one of their very best fosters. If you are interested in adopting Cookie, you can submit an application directly to Adore at: http://www.adorehouston.org/adoption-application/

UPDATE 12/31/15:
Cookie, the now nine-week-old pit bull puppy shown in the video, has been removed from his owner’s home and has been placed with the Houston Humane Society per judge’s orders. Monica Schmidt of the Houston Humane Society reports that the dog is in good spirits, gets along great with everyone and is playful and energetic despite her past. From here Cookie will go to a rescue group where she will go up for adoption.
Original Post:
We all know that puppies can be a lot of work. But you know what? That’s why so many end up getting surrendered to shelters because ignorance is bliss for some people who don’t realize that before bringing one into their life. I love dogs, just like you, and it kills me to see anyone that mistreats an animal… especially when they don’t think they have done anything wrong.
Just a few days ago in Houston, Texas, a woman was caught “leash training” her small puppy… which to her meant that she was dragging it and then flinging the leash forward as the dog did not want to walk and was dragged in the process. BUT, what this cruel woman didn’t know, was that a Good Samaritan and fellow neighbor was watching her… and recording the incident. For the whole world to see:
Warning: This video can be upsetting, but I assure you the dog was NOT injured.
Like the man who asked that his identity remain anonymous, this video upset me a great deal. No loving pet owner would ever treat their animal in such a way, and after he shared his video with Channel 13 News in Houston, countless viewers were outraged at the sight of it, demanding that the news crews track down this mysterious “pet owner” and find out why she would think to do such a thing. So, news anchors went to her house and knocked on her door, looking to get her side of the story. Now see what she had to say about all of this:
What do you think? I think that the puppy should be taken away from her if you ask me! Thankfully the man that made this video has since filled a complaint with the SPCA shortly after this video was taken. And there are also a whole lot of people in the city of Houston that will be recognizing this woman’s face from here on out! I mean, just look at this sweet face, how could you ever mistreat him?
