Duke Was Thrown From A Moving Car, But Now He’s Healed Thanks To YOU

A portion of every purchase you make from iHeartDogs.com is donated to Greater Good Charities. They’re an incredible group of charity partners who help people and pets. It’s because of customers like you that make their mission possible.

This gorgeous boy came into care at Helping Paws Rescue through horrific circumstances. He was literally thrown out of a moving car at the intersection of two major highways.

Duke in car

As the car approached a yield sign, Duke was thrown out of one of the windows. He was super skinny, incredibly frail, and had wounds all over his body. Plus, he was covered in scratches and abrasions from sliding on the rough asphalt road. The poor pup was covered in “road rash.”

While Helping Paws Rescue wasn’t aware of Duke’s full backstory, their best guess was that he was used as a “bait dog” in a dogfighting ring. That means, he would have spent all his time chained up and repeatedly attacked by trained fighting dogs.

“To me, dogs like Duke are what ‘rescue’ is all about. He went from rags to riches and from being unwanted and thrown away to knowing what love feels like,” said one of his rescuers.

It’s hard for Duke’s current family to imagine him as ever having been a bait dog. He’s the sweetest boy to every dog, cat, and human he has ever encountered. He even allows the smaller dogs at the rescue to climb on him and use him as a step stool. They love to snuggle up on him like a big, warm bed.

He is the most loyal companion and is up for anything at any time. This includes car rides, golf cart escapades, and enthusiastically playing with his favorite toys! Duke is now happy, healthy and awaiting his forever home in the capable hands of Helping Paws Rescue.

And none of this would be possible without the Greater Good CharitiesGOODS program, which distributes food and essential supplies to rescue pets in need. Since a portion of every purchase made from iHeartDogs.com is donated to the GOODS program, YOU play a pivotal role in helping dogs like Duke get  high-quality food that helps them heal and then go on to find the family of their dreams. So, thank you.
