After Two Years Apart, Owner is Worried Her Dog Won’t Recognize Her

| Published on April 14, 2016

Zeus, a terrier mix, disappeared from his home in Florida almost two years ago in August 2014. His owner, Debi Petranck searched everywhere for him – placing ads in papers, hitting the pavement hard in search of her best friend. She received many leads, but they all led to dead-ends. She figured she would never see him again. And she was devastated.

Then, last week, she got a call from Dearborn Animal Shelter in Metro Detroit. They had Zeus! Fortunately, Zeus was microchipped so when he came in as a stray dog, the shelter was able to scan him and found out he belonged more than 1,000 miles away!

Petranck was ecstatic when she learned her dog was alive, well, and that they were going to be reunited. But she was worried he may not recognize her. Watch his reaction below:

According to a statement from Dearborn Animal Shelter, Fairlane Ford and Enterprise Leasing helped arrange for car rental discounts so that she could pick up Zeus. Red Roof Inn in Dearborn even provided accommodations for the two, while some anonymous donors helped fund the expenses for the trip. Thank you to all of those who helped this family be reunited. What a beautiful reunion!
