Boy Celebrates 9th Birthday By Passing On Presents And Buying A Bulletproof Vest For Police K9

| Published on October 4, 2015

While most kids usually spend their birthday money by buying the latest toys, lots of candies, or some high-tech gadgets, a 9-year-old boy from Minnesota is donating his birthday money to help buy a bulletproof vest for a police dog.

Instead of getting presents for his birthday, Ethan Flint was the one giving a present. He told his family that this year, he wants cash for his birthday. And with that, he gave a handmade check to the local police department so the money can help in buying a bulletproof vest for one of their K9 officers.

Ethan said, “Some dogs have vests and some dogs didn’t and I didn’t think that was fair.”

Each bulletproof vest costs about $2600. So Ethan and his mom created a GoFundMe page to raise money and help buy bulletproof vests for K9 officers.

This isn’t the first time that Ethan donated something for a cause. He’s been doing it since he was 4 years old. He also helped raise money to rebuild the Lake Superior Zoo after it was flooded, and gave giraffes a home at Como Zoo. Altogether, he was able to raise $4550 to help various animals. Next year, he is planning to help penguins or turtles. What an admirable young individual!

If kids today are showing this much compassion to animals, I believe there is hope for humanity.
