During these times of social isolation, we’ve largely had to resort to experiencing virtual versions of things. Museums have released virtual tours, artists now teach classes on the web, and actors perform digitally while they can’t be on stage. So, while we may not be able to just flock to crowded theme parks like we used to, we can still get glimpses of their non-ride offerings online.
One particular park, Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, has a show we’d all love to see. Yes, the park known for its rollercoasters has plenty of animal-related entertainment as well. The show, called “Pet Shenanigans,” gives starring roles to clever rescue animals. Various small but intelligent creatures join their trainers on an adorable outdoor stage to perform incredible tricks.
These brilliant dogs, cats, birds, pigs, and more can do some pretty cool things. Some run up walls, some jump rope, and some retrieve things from tricky places. All of them are rewarded with treats, kisses, and belly rubs.
Emphasizing A Trainer/Animal Relationship With Rescued Performers
If you’re wondering how the animals feel about starring in a live show, fret not. The park rescued these animals, freeing them from kennels and showing them love (and fame.) They’re really just rescued animals with cool jobs. No one works too hard, or does what they don’t want to.
An official description of the show states:
“While the show is wildly popular among our guests, we want everyone to know that the animals have been adopted from rescue facilities and animal centers across the country. Plus, our trainers place an emphasis on positive reinforcement, which means the animals are getting a lot of loving attention, including some pretty epic belly rubs. The trainers form strong bonds with the animals, and in the end, it’s all about having fun.”
At the end of the season, all the show animals go up for adoption, according to a park employee. All stars have to retire eventually, right?
