Some of the most loving gestures are those that occur when nobody is watching. That’s exactly what happened when a café customer stumbled upon a stray dog in need and had no idea that anyone would see what she did next.
It was a cold and rainy day in Zonguldak, Turkey when a café customer finished her coffee and set out to start her day. As she exited the cafe, she noticed a stray dog curled up on the front steps, seeking some sort of refuge from the frigid rain. The poor pup was noticeably shivering and curled up in a tight ball in effort to stay warm.
The café customer stood there for a few seconds, likely contemplating how she could brighten this furry friend’s day and offer some comfort. It was then that she removed the scarf from around her neck and placed it upon the quivering pup.
At that moment her comfort took a back seat to the overwhelming urge she felt to help a fur baby in need. As the woman walked away, the pup nuzzled into his makeshift blanket, likely feeling thankful for her kind gesture.
Though the heartwarming moment only lasted a few seconds, it wasn’t long before the footage of this interaction went viral. Everyone was blown away by this incredible act of kindness and wanted to acknowledge the woman behind the loving offer.
Soon this video made headlines around the country and made it possible for the selfless woman to be identified. Someone who watched the video realized that this wasn’t an unknown woman, but that this was the action of her animal loving friend – Duygu Elma.
Elma had no idea that her simple gesture would result in so much praise from dog lovers around the world. With no other option available to help the stray pup in that moment, she said it just seemed like the right thing to do.
“I couldn’t imagine that my actions would receive this attention. I’m very surprised about it. The weather was so cold. I just couldn’t take it when I saw him shivering.” – Duygu Elma
Though Elma has not seen the stray dog since their short moment together, she hopes other people will be inspired to help animals in need when they have the opportunity. We are so happy to know that kind souls like her exist!
