Relationship goals have hit a new high – the rest of us can go home now.
Gifts on first, second and third wedding anniversaries are traditionally meant to be paper, cotton and leather-made gifts. This couple has eschewed traditional gifts for something even better – dogs!
Neydi and Carlos Romero have been married for three years, and the young couple has marked every anniversary so far with a new addition to their family! They both love dogs, and together have adopted three furry family members – so far!

Carlos surprised Neydi on their first anniversary with a rescue from their local shelter, who they named Captain. They chose their second pup together, and named him Teddy.
Their newest addition, Chewy, is only a few months old and now has a loving family thanks to Carlos and Neydi’s sweet tradition! Neydi’s sister shared a post about their yearly ritual on Twitter and the post went viral.

Although the dogs were picked as part of their celebration, Carlos and Neydi don’t take their decision to adopt lightly. Neydi tells Buzzfeed News:
“A lot of people look at dogs like presents. Each dog I got, I knew the responsibilities I was getting into. All dogs have a capability of living a long life. I don’t think some people — at least some younger people — realize they’re living things.”
Carlos and Neydi know that they’ll eventually have to put their tradition aside, but they’re considering fostering as an alternative! Until then, though, they plan to continue growing their family another year or two.
