Dog At Shelter 900+ Days Asks Santa For A Home

| Published on December 22, 2019

Letters to Santa have always been the most heartwarming of all the annual traditions. They give children everywhere a chance to dream and fantasize. Our dogs don’t really get an opportunity to put their hopes and dreams down on paper like that. Lucky for one adoptable pup in Pennsylvania, the humans that knew her best wrote a letter to Santa for her.

Lucy and her sister Bella first arrived at the PSPCA through its Humane Law Enforcement team in May 2017. That was over 2 and a half years ago, and Lucy is still living in the shelter.

The letter written on Lucy’s behalf told a little story of her life. It also described her desire to find a family.

“Dear Santa, My name is Lucy, or Queen Lucy. I’ve been living in the shelter for over 903 days! While I have many adoring subjects here, I am ready to rule over a smaller kingdom.”

Lucy detailed her quirks and listed her expectations for her “smaller kingdom.” For example, real certified Milkbones only (she’s a picky little queen!)

“I am scared of some strangers, so I will need patient subjects to help me work through my fears. Lastly, my subjects should be ready and willing to have me sit close, snuggle, and kiss them.”

Lucy’s letter closes with a note of hope.

“Thank you, Santa, I’m going to keep my royal paws crossed!”

Santa obviously read Lucy’s letter, and he came down to the shelter for some hugs and kisses. Santa promised the excited pup he would do his best to find her a new kingdom to rule.

Now that Santa met Lucy, surely he’ll find a way to grant her request!

900 days is such a long time, and people who know Lucy just want her to find happiness. Nicole, a friend of Lucy’s from the PSPCA, sang the dog’s praises on Facebook.

“This girl has a big personality, big smile, big fun and a big heart. When she loves you, you feel it from head to toe! She is a top-notch snuggle Queen.”

Even though Lucy is very popular at the shelter, she can be wary of some men. The shelter recommends a patient adopter willing to work with Lucy on her trust issues.

“She enjoys learning new things and is looking forward to learning more with her forever family, she also likes agility! She likes car rides and swimming in the creek. She is a “bone-a-fido” treat critic and won’t hesitate to let you know when a treat is sub-par. She loves to play dress up and is open to meeting other dogs to live with.”

She’s not really a cat lover, but she’s all about human and canine companionship. Plus, Lucy will always keep you entertained.
