Jamie Wallace-Griner established Safe in Austin Rescue Ranch, which uses animals to provide therapy to special needs children. The ranch is home to 100 rescues, including Halo the Great Pyrenees, who is a particularly remarkable dog.

When Halo was born, she had underdeveloped front legs and a deformed back leg. Her breeder was disgusted by her condition and abandoned her in a box. Fortunately, Jamie discovered her and stepped up to care for the one-legged pup.

Despite the world seeing Halo as hopeless, Jamie was committed to safeguarding the small dog’s well-being. Through intensive therapy and costly reconstruction surgeries, Halo slowly regained mobility. However, Jamie recognized that the spirited pup required an added element that would facilitate her autonomy.

When Halo reached a suitable age, Jamie provided her with customized prosthetic legs. Initially, Jamie focused on helping Halo become accustomed to the new legs. However, just minutes after receiving them, Halo courageously stood up and ran independently. It was truly a miraculous moment!

Today, Halo has inspired many children with disabilities who visit the rescue for therapy. Her journey of overcoming obstacles through perseverance and courage gives these children hope that they too can survive and thrive. Halo is truly their hero.
