The Light family had the vacation of a lifetime when they visited the beautiful island of Cyprus. What began as a magnificent trip with the ones they love most, turned into the beginning of a beautiful friendship with an unsuspecting pup.
The Light family was exploring a small village named Kouklia when they locked eyes with a furry friend in need. Stumbling along the cobblestone road was a skinny Beagle mix that immediately ran into the open arms of the Light family.
The dirty stray pup ran to the Light family with an eager tail wag, likely thrilled at the possibility of extra love. Though this street dog was bouncing with joy at the sight of so many kind faces, the family couldn’t help but feel a wave of sadness.
From the moment they met the lovable street dog, it was clear that he lived a challenging life. Not only was he skin and bones, but he also had a serious ear injury that was unattended to. Being the avid animal lovers that they are, the Light family knew they couldn’t leave this pup behind.
“Come on, go get the car. Let’s take him home.” – The Light family father
Once they made the decision to bring their new furry friend home, they jumped into rescue mode! With the help of a tasty can of dog food, they were able to lure the pup into their car and head back to their temporary home in Cyprus. The starving pup gobbled up every last bite of food as if he hadn’t eaten in days, solidifying their decision to bring him to safety.
“So when we got home, we put out a load of cushions and blankets for him, and he just stayed there. He slept for hours and hours and hours” – Light Family
The Light family knew how exhausted he likely was from his life on the streets, so they immediately created a cozy spot for him to rest. After finally resting comfortably without the fear of his surroundings, it was time for a trip to the vet.
After looking at the injury in this poor pup’s ear, the vet determined that there were shards of shrapnel in the wound. His past immediately became darker than they ever thought, as this likely meant he was shot at some point. Heartbroken at the thought of the pain he must have endured, they knew it was up to them to offer a bright future.
After lovingly naming him Wilf, it was now time to figure out how to fly him from Cyprus to their home in the UK. After frantically searching google for advice and speaking with local vets, they were able to get him a flight to their home country!
From the moment Wilf touched down in the UK, he stepped into the beautiful future he always deserved. Not only did the Light family make him the center of their world, but they offered him the comfort to finally allow his bubbly personality to shine.
Wilf has transformed from a shy street dog to a cheeky pup with a teddy bear obsession. Wilf can always be found with a teddy bear in his mouth, even those that are twice his size!
The only moment he is not carrying a teddy around the house is when he is resting in his huge pile of plush toys. The Light family has offered Wilf a home filled with endless teddy bears, surrounding him in the comfort he always craved.
“People say that rescue dogs have a special kind of gratitude. I think that applies to Wilf.”
We are so thankful for the Light family and everything they have done for Wilf. It’s clear that Wilf has finally found the forever family of his dreams, and we can’t wait to watch him thrive as the years go by!
