A tiny Yorkshire Terrier named Starla is being hailed a hero after foiling a home invasion in South Fulton, Georgia this Tuesday.

Starla managed to run off the would-be robbers after being shot twice. The brave little pooch is also credited with saving a young girl’s life.

“This little thing right here. It’s just like a little guard dog,” said Dion Ewing, Starla’s owner.

A doorbell cam captured the horrifying moment the two criminals broke into the house. Starla and Ewing’s young niece were home alone at the time.

The video shows the armed perpetrators boldly kicking in the front door in broad daylight.

“My niece got an alert on her phone about somebody approaching,” Ewing told ABC News.

The girl watched helplessly as the men kicked their way into the home just before 3:00 p.m.

“The other partner turned around and started kicking it from the back and he kicked it about two times and then the back came open. The door came open,” said Ewing.

The men entered the home and immediately fired two shots at Starla. While only the criminals know exactly what happened, they must have felt threatened by the little dog.

The temporary distraction gave Ewing’s niece time to escape through the garage. The men pursued her and engaged in a chilling exchange.

“As she was running out, the one who had the gun asked the other one if they wanted them to shoot her,” Ewing recounted.

Thankfully the men didn’t shoot. They were distracted by Starla as she continued to pursue them through the garage.

“They were chasing her out and the dog was chasing behind them. Even after being shot,” said Ewing.

Instead of continuing the attack, the men jumped in their car and sped away. Unfortunately, they have not been apprehended.

“They’re cowards… If you know anything, please turn them in,” Ewing implored the public in her interview with ABC.

As for two-year-old Starla, she was very lucky. The gunman’s bullets hit her in the right front and right rear legs, but the injuries are not serious. She is recovering at home with her grateful family.

“We are trying to keep her limited on the moving because of where she got injured at. They don’t want her to rip her lacerations,” said Ewing.

Starla may be small, but she is definitely mighty. It just goes to show that love makes dogs capable of amazing things!
