One day, a passerby was driving down a Kentucky road when they noticed something unusual—a small creature tied to a tree by the side of the road. The driver’s curiosity and compassion led them to stop and check on the helpless animal. What they found was a little dog, later named Ladybird, sitting calmly by the tree, seemingly waiting for someone to help her. The Good Samaritan immediately contacted the nearby animal shelter, and without hesitation, shelter staff rushed out to rescue the pup.

Fortunately, Ladybird had been left not too far from the shelter, making her rescue swift. However, this was only the beginning of her journey. Being such a young and fragile puppy, estimated to be only 6 to 7 weeks old, Ladybird needed special care. The shelter, already overcrowded, wasn’t the ideal environment for a vulnerable puppy like her, but the team knew they couldn’t turn her away. Determined to find a solution, the staff made adjustments to make space for Ladybird, ensuring she was safe until a more suitable arrangement could be found.

That’s when Kim and her dedicated team of volunteers stepped in. As soon as Kim saw Ladybird’s post, she asked around to see if any volunteers could foster her. The shelter certainly wasn’t the ideal place for such a young puppy.  Thankfully, a volunteer stepped up and agreed to foster her.

Although she had been frightened and unsure when first brought to the shelter, Ladybird soon revealed her playful, loving nature. She blossomed under the care of her foster family, and her journey took another fortunate turn when the team secured her a spot at the Licking County Humane Society.

Merida is a senior who was found abandoned in a backyard with her sibling who had passed away. She was left to fend for herself as an 11-year-old with diabetes. Thankfully, Kanoa Rescue Foundation stepped in to save her, but she still needs your help!

After some time in foster care, Ladybird’s story finally reached its heartwarming conclusion. On February 1st, the Humane Society happily announced that Ladybird had found her forever home. Mr. Baker, a compassionate man, adopted the sweet pup, giving her the loving family she had been waiting for.

Now, Ladybird will receive all the care, love, and attention she deserves—a happy ending for a little dog who once sat alone, tied to a tree, waiting for her second chance.
