Taking on the task of fostering is a truly unique experience. It’s an opportunity for individuals to be temporary dog owners (pet parents), give them love and care, and then pass that pet on to his or her permanent home. Nicki Clawson fell in love with Cookie, the dog she fostered for the Northwest Boxer Rescue. Cookie had to go to his or her ultimate home at some point.

Nicki carried the dog and, with moist eyes, waited for the family to show up at the meetup location. It’s always a sad moment when fosters leave their shelters. She had no idea she was being set up by the rescue organization in doing so.

She received a folder with the adoptive family’s phone number inside it. Nicki was overcome with emotion as she sat on the sidewalk beside Cookie, prepared to call. Tears began to fall as Nicki comprehended what was going on. Because she loved her so much, Nicki got the dog from the rescue organization.
