In May 2022, Pebbles the Toy Fox Terrier won the Guinness World Record for “World’s Oldest Living Dog.” Only two weeks before, a 21-year-old Chihuahua named TobyKeith won the award. When Pebble’s family saw that, they applied since she was 22 years old.
Pebbles was born on March 28th, 2000. So, once her family showed proof of her age, the 4-pound pup won the record. Sadly, Pebbles’ status was short-lived because less than six months later, the senior dog passed away. She lived a long, fulfilling life and had many adoring fans in her final days.
A Once in a Lifetime Companion
Pebbles passed away on October 3rd, 2022, due to natural causes. She was only a few months short of turning 23. In her last moments on Earth, she rested beside her two humans, Bobby and Julie Gregory.
“Pebbles was not just another dog; she had her own way about her, and her own personality,” Julie wrote in a press release. “She was a once in a lifetime companion, and it was our honor to have had the blessing to have had her as a pet, and family member.”
When Pebbles first met her family, it was like fate. They wanted to adopt a large dog, but Pebbles wouldn’t stop jumping and barking to get their attention. They decided to give her a chance and instantly fell in love. Ever since that moment, she has been the “queen of their home.”
Some of Pebbles’ hobbies included listening to country music, sleeping in until the afternoon, and trying new foods. In her senior years, her vet put her on a cat food diet to increase her protein intake, but her humans still gave her special snacks from time to time. She was always pampered and loved.
Rest in Peace, Pebbles
Pebbles’ family said everyone that met Pebbles loved her. She impacted many people, especially in her final months, so she will be greatly missed.
“Thank you to everyone for your love and support for Pebbles throughout her life and her journey. She will forever be in our hearts,” Julie wrote.
No matter how many years we get with our dogs, it will never be long enough. Pebbles got many more years than the average dog, but she will still be very missed by those who loved her. Most people will remember her as the oldest living dog, but her humans will always remember her as an important part of their family.
