As winter arrived in South Africa, Tessa’s situation became increasingly concerning. The colder weather was hard on her health, making it more important than ever for her to have a secure and comfortable place to recover.
Then another troubling incident changed the situation. After Tessa chased a neighbor, the neighbor reportedly threw a stone at her. It was a painful reminder that remaining where she was could expose the senior dog to further danger.
By this point, Sidewalk Specials had spent months building trust with Tessa’s family. That relationship proved important when the rescuers explained that she now needed a safer environment. Her family eventually agreed.
Tessa was moved into foster care, giving her something she desperately needed: a peaceful place where she could rest without facing the same daily pressures. After months of uncertainty, the senior dog finally had an opportunity to focus on recovering.
The change has made a meaningful difference. Tessa is reportedly doing much better, but she has not suddenly become a completely different dog. Her spirited personality remains part of who she is, and the right home will need to understand and respect that.
She is now searching for a permanent retirement home in South Africa where she can spend her senior years surrounded by patience, security, and love. For a dog who spent so much time protecting herself, finding people willing to accept her exactly as she is could provide the peaceful final chapter she deserves.
