Squirrel, a lovable pup with a huge heart, craves nothing more than being held and showered with affection. However, living in a shelter means she doesn’t always get the constant cuddles she so deeply desires. Her life wasn’t always like this. Squirrel once had a family. Sadly, they abandoned her just before Hurricane Helene approached Florida. Fortunately, she was found by Mercy Full Project, a shelter in Tampa, before the storm hit.

She was wandering alone, but thankfully, she was found and taken in. But her past experience left her with severe abandonment issues, as the shelter explained on TikTok. When Squirrel first arrived at the shelter, she was visibly shaken and frightened. “She’s just a little puppy and was so scared,” said Mercy Full Project. The only comfort for her is being held tightly. Every time a shelter worker passes her kennel, Squirrel eagerly jumps up, hoping for a hug. She’ll even climb up the kennel bars, several feet high, and make direct eye contact, silently pleading for attention.

In one heartfelt moment captured on TikTok, a shelter worker responds to Squirrel’s wish for love. As she steps into the kennel, Squirrel’s excitement is unmistakable. But the moment she’s lifted into the worker’s arms, she finally relaxes. “She is just a baby who wants love,” a viewer commented, touched by the scene.

Although the shelter staff adores giving Squirrel the comfort she seeks, they know what she truly needs is a home where she can receive endless love and attention. “Adopt Squirrel if you want a clingy snuggle bug,” they shared on TikTok, hoping to find her a forever family.

Merida is a senior who was found abandoned in a backyard with her sibling who had passed away. She was left to fend for herself as an 11-year-old with diabetes. Thankfully, Kanoa Rescue Foundation stepped in to save her, but she still needs your help!

Thankfully, the response has been overwhelming. The shelter has received many adoption applications for Squirrel, and soon, she won’t have to climb the kennel bars to ask for a hug. “She’s so excited to find a home,” Mercy Full Project said, hopeful for Squirrel’s happy future.
