Davis Island Dog Beach in Tampa, FL is the perfect destination for anyone with a dog looking to get some sun and have a good time in the water. Every summer, thousands head over to get their beach fix on the roughly 200-foot waterfront. Recently, however, beach-goers noticed a Lab-mix drowning and when they pulled her to shore, she was having difficulty breathing. They called for help and with the arrival of the local fire department and assistance from a local resident, the dog was revived and is perfectly healthy. What they discovered is that the dog didn’t actually almost drown, she had ingested too much saltwater because she was thirsty. Drinking saltwater is dangerous, as it leads to too much water in the intestine and dehydration. So if you’re going to head to the beach with your pup, make sure to have plenty of fresh water available. Fortunately, this pooch was saved and is back to his normal life!
There really are two purposes for this video. The first is to recognize and appreciate the help and hard work that these heroes put into this poor pup. Without them, she wouldn’t be alive today. The second is to remind everyone of the importance of fresh water being available at all times, because even playing around at the beach will make your pup hot and thirsty!
