There are as many different dog breeds as there are personal lifestyles, so it’s no wonder that some people are particularly fond of a certain type of dog. Unfortunately, many breeds (including mixed breeds) are prone to certain health issues, including types of cancers.
Below are 10 dog breeds that tend to be prone to this disease. While the list is by no means extensive – and it’s possible for any dog to get cancer – the more you know, the more you can keep your pup as healthy and happy as possible.
#1 – Bernese Mountain Dog
As is typical for many large breeds, Bernese Mountain Dogs fall victim to many types of cancer. In fact, studies have reported that up to half of it’s breed will die from the disease.
#2 – Boxer
Boxers have the highest rate of mast cell tumors of any breed of dog. Fortunately, they do grow slowly, but that shouldn’t stop you from seeking medical attention if you notice any skin lumps or lesions. While older dogs are more commonly affected, mast cell tumors can occur at any age.
