Someone abandoned River at a high-intake, high-kill shelter in Texas. She was only an 8-week-old puppy, and she spent a month there, waiting for someone to save her. But since the shelter was overcrowded without enough resources, her time was running out.

Like many dogs in crowded shelters, River was very shut down and scared. Her fear prevented potential adopters from seeing her true personality, making it harder to her to get her happily ever after. Eventually, Unleashed Love Pet Rescue in Grand Rapids, MI was able to get her out of that overwhelming environment to give her a better chance at getting adopted.

When River arrived at the rescue, she had a skin infection and ear infection. The rescue treated those conditions, and once River had time to decompress, she became more playful and loving.

River’s Second Chance

Now, River is in an incredible foster home while she waits for someone to adopt her. Every day, she comes out of her shell a little more. Her foster family believes she would do best in a quiet home with no young kids because she needs lots of patience before she feels comfortable in new surroundings.

Unleashed Love Pet Rescue is one of the organizations that receives food from the GOODS Program. That way, they no longer have to worry about spending money on food, allowing them to focus their funds on other areas of care like medical needs.
