Imagine hearing whimpering coming from your trash can, then discovering that it wasn’t some recyclables or wind rattling around, but rather an abandoned, abused dog fighting for its life. That’s exactly what happened recently in Detroit, when a family found an abused dog shivering in a trash can in front of their home.

Eventually, word of the struggling pup got to Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue. Volunteers from the organization rushed out to rescue the dog, who they later named Precious. Precious seems to be a pit bull mix, and was bloodied, cut and bruised when they found her on top of a mound of garbage.

This sweet girl’s tough story was quickly made clear to rescuers.”This is probably a bait dog,” said one volunteer from Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue.”She’s got bite wounds all over her. We’re taking her directly to the vet.” Bait dogs are used in the inhumane, disturbing sport of dog fighting, which Pit Crew Rescue says “happens way more than you think.”

We are SO happy that she is now with people that care about her. The cowards who had her before don’t deserve a dog like this. To donate to the fund intended to help Precious recuperate and eventually start a new life, click here.

It’s so heartbreaking to think this sweet dog could be abused and discarded in such a way. With a lot of medical attention, patience and, above all else, kindness, we hope to see Precious thrive very soon. Have you ever encountered an abandoned dog? Share your story in the comments:
