Chiefs player Derrick Nnadi is known for his kind donations to animal welfare. Leading up to the 2020 Super Bowl, he promised to pay an adoption fee of a hard-to-adopt dog for every game the Chiefs won. Once they reached the 2020 Super Bowl, he set an even higher goal. If the Chiefs won that Super Bowl, he would pay for every dog’s adoption fee at KC Pet Project. He followed through, paying for 100 pet adoption fees.

While the Chiefs didn’t succeed in this year’s Super Bowl, many dogs still did. Nnadi’s kindness and hard work inspired ZIWI Pet Food to help even more dogs in Kansas City.

ZIWI Follows Derrick Nnadi’s Lead

ZIWI, an award-winning New Zealand pet food, was inspired to help rescue dogs after seeing Nnadi’s contributions in 2020. The adoptable pups were bummed that their favorite team didn’t win the Super Bowl this year, but that didn’t mean it was all bad. ZIWI partnered with Nnadi and KC Pet Project to sponsor pet adoptions at a shelter in Kansas City, Missouri.

The adoption fees of all 88 dogs at the shelter were waived thanks to ZIWI. The company gave the shelter a total of $12,000 to help these dogs find homes. Of course, Nnadi supports the company’s efforts more than anyone.

“ZIWI gets what it’s all about, and it’s finding these dogs their forever homes,” Nnadi said. “It means a lot for them to step up and cover their adoption fees for this year.”

Adopt a Kansas City Canine!

In addition to covering adoption fees, ZIWI also has a gift for adopters. Every family that adopts a dog from the shelter will also get a complimentary treat bag from ZIWI. Hopefully, all these dogs will find forever homes in no time!

“KC Pet Project adopts out more than 7,800 pets a year, so we depend on these amazing collaborations to find homes for the animals that come to our shelter,” said Tori Fugate, Chief Communications Officer of KC Pet Project. “We saw a tremendous response to Derrick Nnadi’s generosity in finding homes for all of our dogs in the shelter following last year’s Super Bowl win, and we’re so thrilled that his foundation, along with ZIWI, has helped dozens of dogs find homes this season. We’re so grateful for their support!”

KC Pet Project has two locations, both of which have lots of lovable dogs looking for a home. If you’re interested in adopting one of these furry friends, you can see the adoptable animals on KC Pet Project’s website.
