The Kansas City Chiefs took home the 2020 Super Bowl win this Sunday. Instead of a trip to Disneyland, one player has decided to pay his good fortune forward.

Defensive tackle, Derrick Nnadi is paying the adoption fees for all available dogs at KC Pet Project as of game day – about 100 pups!

Adoption fees at KCPP normally run about $150 so he will be saving the dog lovers of Kansas City almost $14,000.

Nnadi began a partnership with KCPP at the beginning of the season though the Derrick Nnadi Foundation. The soft-hearted player vowed to cover the adoption fee for one hard-to-adopt dog for each Chiefs win.

According to ESPN, all of the dogs in that program found forever homes.

When it became clear the Chiefs would be heading to the Super Bowl, Nnadi upped the ante. He promised to pay every single adoptable dog’s fee if his team took home the title.

Luckily for the 91 available dogs at KCPP’s three locations, Nnadi and the Chiefs did just that!

A spokesperson for KC Pet Project told ESPN that as of Monday afternoon, 20 dogs had been adopted through the Super Bowl program. This is twice as many than would normally be adopted on an average weekday.

Nnadi is more than just a dog lover. He also raises funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

According to the Derrick Nnadi Foundation website:

“Derrick’s father taught him at a young age that ‘As Nnadi’s we don’t receive, we give’ and The Derrick Nnadi Foundation embodies that mantra through all of the work that it does.”

Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs, and especially Derrick Nnadi, who is truly a role model for us all!
